Tom Shelstad’s specialty is in creating transformational experiences for youth. He draws his passion from a rich background in teaching (public and private schools), wilderness therapy, juvenile corrections, mentoring, personal and athletic coaching, challenge courses (facilitating, building, inspecting, and training new facilitators), running leadership development programs for teens, and developing and facilitating rites of passage. As a faculty member at Southern Oregon University since 2009, he works with new facilitators to learn the keys to creating effective, high trust relationships that bring out the best in people through experiential education.
When he’s not facilitating or teaching, Tom can be found on long motorcycle trips, mountaineering, backpacking or traveling. Tom lives in Ashland, Oregon, with his wife, Kelly, with their four-legged friends.
