The Guide Council

Circles for youth.

Sitting in council is an ancient practice used to foster true community by acknowledging and honoring each of the individuals that make up the precious whole, the circle.

In Guide Council, we use this practice to co-create space to intentionally drop into our inner landscapes, remove our social masks, invite self and group inquiry, and learn how to authentically express ourselves and engage with the world around us. Through deep listening and honest expression, we come together in a trusting and safe container of fellow peers to practice compassion, find our voices, see and be seen, celebrate our similarities and differences, encourage and stimulate personal and collective growth, and explore relationships to self, each other and the world.

Guide Council is intended to...

  1. Have a safe place for youth to be exactly who they are. To get real, be free, and let go.
  2. Form a supportive community of vulnerability and accountability.
  3. Help youth develop intentionality, integrity, empowerment and awareness around how they live and interact with life.
  4. Nurture a sense of belonging and connection - with ourselves, our community, and the natural world.
  5. Foster long-term growth and ongoing mentorship.

The structure of Guide Council is designed to meet people where they are, as unique individuals. As such, the curriculum and content flows depending on the needs of each person in the circle. We bring concepts, ideas, and tools that are supportive to personal growth, self-discovery, leadership, empathy, team building, and development of reverence for life and a sense of awe. We source inspiration from Hafiz, Rumi, Mary Oliver, Brene Brown, The Work of Byron Katie, Bill Plotkin, Terry Tempest Williams and many more.

Guide Council includes ongoing circles throughout the school year and 3 enrichment trips (one in the fall, winter, and spring). These trips offer an opportunity to deepen and strengthen the field of trust and connection through adventure and play, as well as an extended time for council.

There are 5 different circles happening during the 2022-23 school year. Please see the appropriate circle below for more details, schedule, cost, etc...
